ExpressCard 2.0 specification nears finalization - (USA)
It’s not only USB 3.0 that has reached a milestone today; ExpressCard too has notched up another specification, taking it to 2.0.  Based on PCI Express 2.0 and USB 3.0 specifications, ExpressCard 2.0 will support data transfers from between two and ten times faster than the current version.  That can be used in anything from SATA 2 drive attachment, to ExpressCard flash-memory expansion. As with USB 3.0, ExpressCard 2.0 slots will be backward compatible with cards based on the existing v1.

Will Tech Sector Woes Clip the Wings of the Soaring E-Book Industry? - (USA)
The one sector of the US economy that has managed to keep its head above the waters swirling down the drain is technology - at least until now. But - what made Silicon Valley think that the slowdown affecting every other business would not eventually seep down to the consumers of expensive cameras, flat screen TVs, and home computers? An article by Ashlee Vance in the New York Times plays up just how dire things are, citing warnings from such major players as Intel and Cisco Systems that revenu

Senate Votes to Strip F-22 Funding, Kill American Jobs - amerpundit.com 07/21/2009 Because we really can’t afford that $2 billion for national defense and job creation when we’re looking at spending $1.5 trillion on healthcare socialization, $2 trillion to fight global warming, and possibly another multi-billion stimulus package. We can afford trillions for junk science, but God forbid we spend even a fraction of that on national defense. The U.S. Senate just approved a measure to st

These designs are made for people who need a PC, but aren’t ready to invest heavily or simply don’t need that much power. Examples of that would include: Mom, Dad and family members, who use their computer to browse the Web, send e-mails and other basic tasks. Entrepreneurs who work at home, publishing content on the Web. Students who use their computer to research information on the Web and do various school work

Coming soon: The One-hour bookstore? - (USA)
Over the last twenty years I’ve designed many books on Systemic Thinking and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. It has been my most consistent graphic design job over the years. I was around when desktop computers took over from traditional typesetting. It looks like the next book I design will be my first in a new generation of books: produced to be downloaded and printed on demand. Recently my father pointed me in the direction of an article on a company called Blurb. Blurb offer anyone the chanc

Adobe wants to bridge gap between PCs and cloud - (USA)
Adobe Systems wants to have it both ways. Microsoft's power with programmers is tethered to desktops and laptops, the vast majority of which run Windows. Google is trying to dominate what it believes is the new frontier, cloud computing, where applications run on the Web. Adobe, though, is trying to run down the middle with a strategy that touches on both domains. "It's a balance of the client and cloud together that makes for the most effective applications and the best development," sa
