Minority rule and corruption in Ethiopia - (USA)
Minority rule and corruption in Ethiopia November 26th, 2008 By Seid Hassan Many observers, including those members of the Diaspora community who visit their homeland, Ethiopia, have observed that the level of corruption in Ethiopia is so unprecedented that it defies common sense. The outright theft that is going on in the country has many dimensions, which are: 1) economic - as exemplified by the deep involvement of the TPLF in the Ethiopian economy and its ability to completely monopol

The silent majority is committed to ethnic harmony - (USA)
Dear Editor, SN seems far too eager to revel in the quagmire, where Guyana has finally ended up at this time. Your columns are ceaseless in their paranoia about Guyana’s ethnic divide which has engendered short-sighted and blinkered proliferations from various competing groups inside and outside of Guyana. Sadly the subject has become commentators’ single most important preoccupation; it has shackled the future of the Guyanese people since the advent of Independence, and it is continuing to be

JAVAKHQ: Historical Outline (Part II) - (USA)
By Ashot Melkonian Translated by T. Sonentz-Papazian Part II: The Tragic Page of Javakhq’s History (1918-21) As early as before World War I, the administrative division of Trans-Caucasia became a subject of serious discussion among many national and political circles—a matter of great importance to Armenian, Georgian, and Tatar (Azerbaijani) activists who explained the Czarist-implemented divisions by the failure of the latter’s consideration of national territorial factors. These studies

A Nation in Blackface - (USA)
A Nation in Blackface with 4 comments Since the election of Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. to the presidency of the United States, a position some have called the most powerful job in the world, there is a growing sentiment in the media that the United States is now in the “post-racial” era - that since we have elected a black president, racism, driving while black, profiling by law enforcement and TSA agents, redlining by private (and public) lending institutions, legal discrimination, purse-clut

Private War the scourge we call terrorism and piracy - (USA)
This is a topic I have written on multiple times, looking at the definition of terrorism being from the same root that piracy comes from:  one seeks pure power via war means the other seeks cash.  Terrorists attack at sea using the means of private war: they have attacked French tankers, Egyptian freighters and warships of the United States and Israel.  The groups doing that go by names like al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas.  The use boats to raid beach resorts, they board ships to take hostages and t

Shoppers rampage - (USA)
On a Free Republic thread about the deadly stampede by frenzied Walmart shoppers, post #8 asks why the media are using an incorrect picture to illustrate the story. The picture apparently being shown is (I believe) from a Target store, and it looks like a racially-mixed group of people, some White, some black, some of unidentifiable race. However, the correct picture of the site of the Walmart stampede shows a group which appears to be close to 100 percent black. The poster asks why the media a

House Democrats ask Holder to meet with radical Islamist groups - (USA)
Sharia is not creeping, it’s infiltrating full speed ahead. From IPT News : Seven House Democrats have written Attorney General Eric Holder invoking a list of grievances from radical Islamist groups and asking that Holder meet with representatives from those groups to hear their concerns, the Investigative Project on Terrorism has learned. The grievances include the use of convicted felons as informants in mosques, alleged religious profiling of Somali Muslims in Minnesota and elsewhere a

ALL MUSIC FANS MUST STAND UP TO THE MET’S RACIST “FORM 696? - (USA)
Words: Josh Hollands London’s live music scene is now under threat following the introduction of new police bureaucracy named “Form 696” the paperwork is for liscencees of venues in 21 London boroughs to fill out. Police are asking for information regarding the ethnicity of all performers and the ethnic backgrounds of the audience. These questions are designed to scare promoters from using Black and Asian performers. In the lengthy document the police demand to know “Is there a particular et

This Country is RACIST - (USA)
I have never written anything more painful than the topic of this post. BOTTOM LINE: THIS COUNTRY IS RACIST.   Supposedly, America was founded on patriotic principles, and believed in a government of the people, for the people, by the people.   But, if there’s honesty, this country was built by stealing from others who already had the rights to the land and coloring history from a different, but lying perspective. However, that does not cover up THE TRUTH.  America is a racist country -

Biochemical truths are not politically correct - (USA)
Biochemical truths are not politically correct Posted by Jillian Becker Thu, 27 Nov 2008 10:00:00 GMT Looking after our health and getting medical treatment when we need it is our own responsibility, like getting food, clothes and shelter, and should not be the business of the government. Now medical research finds that treatment for many diseases needs to be tailor-made for individuals, and ethnicity and gender can make a difference. Peter W Huber writes (read his whole article here):

"Broader Impact" Done Right - (USA)
For as long as I can remember, we ocean science types have had space envy. As in outer space. We lament that the general public seems more engaged by the possibility of life on objects light years away from our blue planet than they are with marine life within arms reach in our own oceans. Our science fiction is filled with creative imaginings of life found in distant sectors of the galaxy. But I've heard my own ocean science colleagues Craig McClain and Kevin Zelnio say, "Show me your strange

White woman: “I am African Canadian when I’m encountering injustice.” - (USA)
November 26, 2008 — Restructure! When I first saw this bus shelter poster, I remember it just said, “i am African Canadian when I’m encountering injustice,” without the second line, “Put yourself in someone else’s shoes.” Without the second line, it was even more incomprehensible to me, and I was trying to figure out what it was supposed to mean. Is the white lady a Canadian of White South African descent, who, when encountering injustice, cries, “You’re discriminating against me because I’m

I wrote this piece for a local magazine which published a much mutilated version of it.  For one thing the owners of the magazine could not understand why I was so “anti-Pakistan”!  Nor could they understand- this one takes the cake-  why I was so “disrespectful” of Mr. Jinnah (This was the unkindest cut for me).  When I explained to them that perhaps they ought to re-read the article in its proper light,  they suggested I take out bits of it which I considered essential pieces of the puzzle.

CSIR’s Censorship is Carbuncle on the Nation’s Butt - (USA)
The independence of scientific research and academic freedom is seriously under threat in South Africa. That is the only conclusion I can come to after the debacle of a senior researcher at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Dr. Anthony Turton, being heavily censored and prevented from delivering the keynote address at a conference in Pretoria last week.     The story was broken by that excellent environmental reporter and Nieman Fellow of the Cape Times, Melanie Gosl

Part 3 Countries with a “youth bulge” in the population, are frequently cited as hotspots of social unrest, war and terrorism. Historians link youth bulges in populations to genocides, 20th-century fascism, revolutions (from France to Iran), and ongoing conflicts such as that in Darfur. Youth bulge theory is influential on U.S. foreign policy. Yet major changes are coming over the next twenty years. Check out this map: Curzon note: Russia should also be in the dark blue category along with t
