A Festival That’s “Shrimply” Unique - (USA)
Exercise your appetite, dust off your dancing shoes, and shimmy up to your shopping bags at the National Shrimp Festival in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Southern Living readers rank it among the South’s top 10 festivals, and the Southeast Tourism Society calls it one of this October’s top 20 events. You should call it your perfect easing-out-of-summer, easing-into-fall family getaway. With the kids back in school and schedules accelerating, opportunities for a final beach vacation are slipping away

Mother's Day - It was a stinker, literally!!! - (USA)
I hope that all of my fellow Mommies had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. As for me, I couldn't have asked for a better time with my family. I got to eat a yummy breakfast prepared by my wonderful husband with my mother and father-in-law Sunday morning. My wonderful husband even cleaned up (well mostly) after breakfast. He is amazing. I got loads of hand made cards from my 6 year old daughter. My son made me some crafts at school. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get a maca

The Performance Art of “Buy Nothing Day” - (USA)
(I do like this poster!) I’m all for social activism, but there is activism that tries to create change and there is activism that seems more of a useless symbolic gesture. Social activists have established tomorrow as Buy Nothing Day. It was founded by Vancouver performance artist Ted Dave and subsequently promoted by the Canadian Adbusters magazine, and I have seen it heavily promoted on Twitter and on blogs. “Buy Nothing Day is the biggest 24-hour moratorium against consumerism. WFMW-My Organizing Secret - (USA)
I love organization. I get weepy when I see pretty file folders and clipboards. I used to be the mostorganizedpersonintheworld . Althoug h I never had a crown and sash, bearing such a title. And then I had kids. My inner guide to organization is thwarted on a daily basis. Because my children? They do not care if all the Legos go together and they certainly aren't losing sleep over the doll clothes being crammed in with the play dough. Not that I've lost sleep over such a trivial

What Tigger Taught Me About Shopping (And Gift Giving) - (USA)
Recently I’ve been reading a great deal, and it’s been a wonderful thing to return to. I’ve found that all too frequently I can’t sit down and just read because I often feel there are too many things that need to get done. I should go to the pottery studio and work on that teapot for my mom, or the darkroom to print the sweatshirt for my brother or a nice bike ride or accomplish any number of items on my to-do list. It’s no wonder then that reading Benjamin Hoff’s section on “The Tigger Tenden

Find an Inexpensive Hobby - (USA)
In my basement are bins and bins of beautiful art supplies and oodles of crafty fun. I could spend years making things out of the items that I have already bought…and yet when I go to the craft store, I still feel that familiar tug that I really need more. I love to explore different hobbies and I love to craft. The fact that I am no good at crafting doesn’t seem to stop me and maybe you are in the same boat? Have you ever really thought about the amount of money you are spending on your hobbie

A Little Holiday Shopping - (USA)
After spending at least five hours in the kitchen yesterday and knowing full well I will be doing the same today suffice it to say yours truly is more than a little unmotivated. In any case follows are few upcoming holiday shopping events which might be of interest. I have been long remiss in giving Tommy and Roy (AKA: the Alter boys) a shout out. Today I wish to correct this egregious oversight on my part by passing along the deets about their upcoming “Thanksgiving Weekend Sale”. And oh ye

Inside the World’s Longest Yard Sale - (USA)
What’s more uniquely American than super-sizing and yard sales? Combine the two and you get the so-called World’s Longest Yard Sale , a real-life phenomenon which started 22 years ago in the heartland of America. This year, the event, also known as the Highway 127 yard sale or 127 Corridor Sale, began Thursday August 6, and ends on Sunday August 9. For the unacquainted, here’s the deal: The sale consists of hundreds of mom-and-pop (and professional) vendors who set up makeshift stalls, t
