Store Profile: The Brown Elephant, Oak Park - (USA)
If you’re in the city, this one’s a little bit off the beaten path, but depending on who you’re asking, it’s worth the trek out to the Frank Lloyd Wright ‘burb to check it out. Sure, the prices are a little high, but the selection is better than most junky city thrift stores, so if you find yourself on the Eisenhower with 30 minutes of spare time, I suggest stopping off. I have managed to furnish my entire apartment–one piece at a time–by shopping here. I’m a big fan of shopping here. T

Signed books - (USA)
I’ve had a few folks write to me to ask where they can buy signed copies of my books. The answer is there are many many places. I was just on tour, see, and wherever I went I signed books. Even if you have zero interest in whether a book is signed or not these are all very fine bookshops that you should check out if you haven’t already: California: Borderlands Books 866 Valencia St. San Francisco CA 94110 Bonus: they have two gorgeous Sphynx cats. The Application of Science to Entertainment Has Made Us Lazy - (USA)
All the advances in technology were meant to make our lives easier and in most cases they did so, but with what price? We have become so lazy we don’t even go shopping. We just look for something on the Internet, we order and we get the object delivered at home. We don’t even have to go to the bank as we pay on-line and the money transfer is made by the bank.Going shopping was one of the favourite “hobbies” for women all over the world, but now they choose to do other things. The application of

Would You Step on Your Neighbor's Head Over a Book? - (USA)
Though books are among the noblest expressions of civilization, like other art forms they can be dangerous. Authors have been imprisoned and even executed because of them. Libraries have been sacked and books destroyed in bonfires because of the ideas they contained. Of recent memory, a fatwah was issued against Salman Rushdie for his novel The Satanic Verses, and the Turks prosecuted an author under Law 301 forbidding "Unturkishness" in books published in their country. There is little risk, h

Where has the life in MY LIFE went to? - (USA)
Anyone else out there feel busy as hell, pressed for time, wondering where your free time went to, etc.? I mean, where has the life in my life went to? I went back to work last week after my six weeks off recovering from my hysterectomy, and I also began my physical therapy for my back. I realized that I don’t have A SINGLE MINUTE OF TIME to even think about the things I want to do, let alone do them. Sure, I went to a house warming “girls night in” party Friday, worked OT and shuttled kid
