10 Most Popular Social Media Sites to Participate in - (USA)
Social media are primarily Internet- and mobile-based tools for sharing and discussing information among human beings. Unlike industrial media, social media is relatively cheaper for anyone to publish or access information whereas industrial media issues may include expensive printing press or a government-granted spectrum license. Because of the popularity of social media sites, it also became the center of online marketing they call social media optimization. Social Media Optimization of SMO

Confession Tuesday - (USA)
In a previous post I wrote about my work with Color Online. In order to build our library collection, I spend a good amount of time acquiring books on book trading sites. I was recently asked by a book trader how I ended up running a library. I thought I repost it here:If you know anything about non-profits, you know there are never enough volunteers. I approached the agency about creating a lit group for them. Well, if we were going to be reading we needed books and a place to keep them. You c

God sneaks into our classrooms - (USA)
Lim Say Liang In 2005, after complaints from the public, the Ministry of Education (MOE) rapped the knuckles of teachers who openly proselytize in class: “’The MOE takes a firm stand on religious proselytising by teachers,” the statement said. “Our schools are secular, and teachers should not be engaged in proselytizing their students. Otherwise we face a real risk of undoing the multicultural and multi-religious sensitivity and harmony that Singapore has built up over the years, and which o

Research a contemporary novel? - (USA)
Good morning Seekers and friends, Pour yourself a cup of aromatic chocolate velvet coffee or some blueberry herbal tea and lets talk researching the contemporary novel. Research? A contemporary? Wouldn't you simply write what you know from experience? Don't we already know the styles for clothing, the types of transportation, the currant issues? Why do you need to research? Good questions. (of course they are since I wrote them myself LOL) But on to the point. Contemp

Hunting and Gathering by Deborah Cooke - (USA)
(View the entire post here) One of the most fascinating parts of writing fiction for me is hunting and gathering my research materials. There's a certain heft of materials that makes me feel ready to begin, a particular quantity of stuff spread around my office that signals the time to begin writing. My husband calls this "clutter". I call it "research". I know other authors who work in monastic conditions, reading and making notes off site, then returning to a pristine desk to write.

The Best Bug Reference Book - (USA)
Today is turning out to be a great catch up day. I haven't had one of those in a while. For a couple of reasons, I'm trying to buy almost, if not all of our Christmas gifts on-line. The first reason is so I don't have to traipse out to stores when I would rather be at home enjoying my husband and beagle. Secondly, so I don't spend all sorts of extra money on stuff I would not normally buy. Even I'm not totally immune to the powers of suggestive advertising. So far, this plan is working very well.

13 Point Checklist updated - (USA)
If one dog year is equal to four human years, then one Internet year is equal to at least ten human years. Let's face it - information simply ages more rapidly online. That makes my little checklist below about 70 Internet years old, since the original 1996 "12 Point Checklist" was last updated in 2002 for an article in Principle Magazine , Getting the Most Out of Your School Library Media Program . At a recent meeting, I caught flack for "not keeping stuff up-to-date." Guilty. Here

The truth on the cost of homeschooling 202 - (USA)
The notion that home schooling is much less expensive than sending your child to an educational institution is prevalent, but not necessarily true. This is because there are many hidden costs that are present and is really not obvious at first glance. Firstly, you will have to get the curriculum issue sorted. There are out of the box curriculum that is available for a fee varying between $300 and $1500. However if you have a teaching background or some prior knowledge of homeschooling this is

Homeschooling Book Decluttering Project Continues - (USA)
I continue to try to rid our family of books that we are done using or will never use. The foyer and dining room continue to be stacked with books. This must be done by Thanksgiving Day since relatives are coming to eat here, in the dining room. I intentionally tackled this project as there was a deadline. I figured I could get it done in 17 days. It is amazing how things pop up and take up my time, robbing the time I thought I'd dedicate to this. The hard part about this is that I really t
