How much oil do Opec countries really have? This artificial scarcity that Opec manages to create did not allow oil prices to fall. The same idle capacity has been used to pump extra oil into the market to prevent dramatic price rises during times of unexpected supply interventions. Most of this idle capacity is in Saudi Arabia, the largest member of the Opec. "This encouraged the belief that Opec could always be relied upon to make up the difference between non-Opec supply and global demand

Big Brother’s Watching: Census Bureau GPS-Painting Your Front Door! - (USA)
This is Part 1 of a two part article. Yesterday afternoon a thug from the Census Bureau snuck on to my front porch, opening my screen door quietly, but not quietly enough and tried to paint my front door. Before he had a chance to paint my front door I ran him off, called the Sedgwick Sheriff Department and made a report of suspicious person and activity. It appears I am not the only one who has reacted similarly. Others have called the police and at least one person contacted his attorney.

Aide Killed Michael Jackson - (USA)
News reports are now surfacing that an aide killed Michael Jackson. Right now many sources are looking at Michael Jackson’s doctor as a possible culprit in his death by prescribing a powerful anesthesia neglectfully. However, a new report suggests that Jackson’s aid gave him a shot of Demerol while he slept. The story goes that Dr. Murray gave Jackson a shot of Propofol which then put him to sleep. Apparently Jackson then woke up, still in pain, and a compliant aide gave him a shot of Demer

Repealing DADT Is Only the First Step - (USA)
(I wrote this back in February for 365gay.com , but it seemed timely to repost it here (with slight updates) in light of the Army National Guard’s recent dismissal of West Point graduate and Arabic linguist Lt. Dan Choi under “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” (He was on the Rachel Maddow Show last week.) Although the timetable for repealing DADT is perhaps iffier than when I first wrote the piece, there are glimmers of hope, as Aubrey Sarvis, executive director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense

God forbid. Should there ever be a terrorist attack in the United States again, then every finger will be pointed at the Department of Homeland Security. Were they not there on the ramparts with the simple mission of keeping us safe? Is Homeland Security not the repository of the best and the brightest--and best practices--when it comes to keeping us secure against a terrorist attack? There is the real possibility that the Homeland Security Department will miss the necessary clues because

Rethinking The Safety Net - (USA)
The safety net is an apt metaphor for the American social welfare system. You are either self-sufficient, on a high wire, perilously clinging to a working or middle class life, or you plummet far below to a net that prevents your death as you are face to face with homelessness, unfed children, and immediately life threatening medical mishaps that send you to the emergency room. The ANT-25 Setting Long-Range Records - (USA)
In 1931, the Soviet Military Revolutionary Council decided that a long-range bomber was needed for the Air Force, and in August that year it set up a commission to establish the design requirements. It was decided that none of the TB class aircraft was suitable, so the commission proposed a more streamlined, single-engined design with a slow-running engine in order to reduce drag and to save fuel. Tupolev was instructed to prepare proposals. The proposals were approved in December, and Tupolev s
