Life Insurance ? Ensure The Correct Balance - (USA)
Very few people have sufficient assets to enable them to plough along through life, without making provision for their dependents to continue with their present standard of living when the principal earner is gone. However there are many who seem to have delusions of immortality and keep putting off doing anything about it because they aren?t intending to go just yet. Those who cannot afford life insurance are in a very unfortunate position, but those who can afford it but will not get around t

Rebellion at the restaurant – Healthy eating gone wrong? - (USA)
Check out the surprising news in this recent Reuters article about the adverse effects of healthy menu items on people’s health. Although it discusses a small study of 70 undergraduate students, the results are surprising: • 37% chose a bacon cheeseburger when the menu alternatives included a veggie burger (other options were a chicken or fish sandwich) • only 17% picked the bacon cheeseburger when the veggie burger wasn’t on the menu. Dr. Gavan J. Fitzsimons of Duke Universit

Work From Home - How to Involve Your Children - (USA)
Almost everyone who does work from home and has children wonders about the best way to involve your children in your work without making slave labor out of them. Depending upon the age of the child, he can be of complete nuisance when you are trying to work, or can be a cheerful and helpful assistant who is proud to be helping you. If your child is school age, you may elect to do most of your work during school hours and keep your afternoons and evenings free to interact with the children. If, h

Now He’s Worried - (USA)
Obama, U.S. long-term debt unsustainable. Bloomberg : President Barack Obama, calling current deficit spending “unsustainable,” warned of skyrocketing interest rates for consumers if the U.S. continues to finance government by borrowing from other countries. “We can’t keep on just borrowing from China,” Obama said at a town-hall meeting in Rio Rancho, New Mexico, outside Albuquerque. “We have to pay interest on that debt, and that means we are mortgaging our children’s future with more and

Friday: Some things you just can’t make up - (USA)
Given the choice between posting my final grades and my morning coffee or perusing some of the latest presidential antics and my morning coffee, I chose the latter. Our latest front pager Steven Mather started a great conversation on Obots and willful blindness . Since I was following a tweetathon last night between Glenn Greenwald and Jack Tapper on the latest about face, it seems appropriate to start there. This just comes under the heading of reality taking on dimensions of science fictio

Derrick Fox Killed Malaki - (USA)
Kokomo, IN–Malaki Lindley should have turned a year old Friday. There should be pictures of Malaki eating his very first slice of birthday cake…pictures of that birthday cake smeared all over his smiling little face. There should have been presents for Malaki to enjoy, lots of bright and colorful new toys to play with. Friday was supposed to be his big day. Malaki didn’t get to enjoy that milestone…he died last Sunday. Derrick Fox, his mother’s boyfriend of 6 whole weeks, killed him. Afte

Over My Shoulder #44: on Roe v. Wade, governmental “victories,” and the ennervation of the Women’s L - (USA)
Here’s the rules. Except, note that I have changed them significantly, and plan to keep this new version from here on out. Check it: At the top of the post, make a list of the books you’ve read all or part of, in print, over the course of the past week, at least as far as you can remember them. (These should be books that you’ve actually read as a part of your normal life, and not just something that you picked up to read a page of just in order to be able to post your favorite quote.)

Tradeskilling in EQ2 - (USA)
Yesterday the EQ2 Tradeskill bug bit me again, and I lost several hours leveling up tradeskillers. Now granted, I’m prone to enjoy tradeskilling in MMOs, but only in EQ2 do I have “career tradeskillers” — characters that pretty much only exist to do tradeskills. In part, that’s because EQ2 allows pure tradeskill characters. As far as I know, you never have to suddenly go fight a dragon to advance tradeskills like in some (most?) other MMOs. Granted, you either need Adventuring characters/guild
